Brecon Beacons

First hike of the 2007 and it was fun. Took friday and monday off from work to give me a long weekend. Left early friday with John and arrived at Brecon Beacons NP around 12:30 - we started hiking soon after and was almost blown off the top!

The plan was to complete a 9 peak circuit and we bagged two on the first day. Conditions were boggy and windy. My kit held out and boots were dry. As it should be after paying so much money for it.

Surprised how quickly the light left the sky and by 16:30 it was already dark so we made our way to the car and left for the YHA hostel.

Our three companions were waiting for us at the YHA and we all left for Brecon proper for some fish and chips. Nice food there and Brecon looks like a nice place.....funny how we missed the Morrison's shop! Instead we went to Sommerfields and loaded up on sandwich making materials all ready for the next day.

My goodness, the next day started off wet and it got wetter and windier. We bagged three of the six but had to call it off as there was a real risk of being blown home......

Everything was wet: backups could be upended and water would *pour* out. Not good.

The evening had us in the pub and we treated ourselves to a meal - and Dave; fudge cake with custard is a-okay in my book!
The last day had us wandering around a reservoir - a very pleasant day with some nice photos.
