GISTECH 2007

The travel to Nottingham was terrible. The A52 was closed so we had to take a detour. Once we managed to crawl into Nottingham, it took over an hour to move 3miles! Needless to say, we missed the plenary session. No problems really as I needed to attend the MapAction stand for the next two days with Roger anyway.

So it will be busy then.

No laptop meant no distractions for me but I needed to work on my thesis. Christ, what a rush.

Also, just thought - wouldn't MapAction be better served with a blog facility too? Should be interesting.

Anyway, back to GISTECH 2007; most peeps were late due to the horrible traffic sessions. I only had time to attend the cartography session. It was a nice session dealing with ArcGIS 9.2 and I liked the move of ArcGIS9.2 to improving it's cartographic tools. About time too. So for all you mappers out there, ArcGIS9.2 (and beyond) it may finally deliver.

The food at the conference was very nice too - some of the best food I had in a while. Lots of it and the service was superb. I think all the wait staff were students too. Maybe on their catering courses held at Nottingham University?

For the evening, MapAction was given an award too for Innovation for GIS. Very nice speech by Roger too on accepting the award. Feel quite proud of the organisation and no doubt, enhancing our profile once more. The dinner did not end with a disco or something crass but a free bar with good company. Much better in my view.

The second day was more of the same but MA had a lot more interested persons. Most wanted to join but what can we say? We need more money!!!

Cheer up Ming - you've been 'a wee bit sad' for far too long.
