The Onion - always a good laugh click here and have a good read

Just surfing around and located a gem of a page. I love the two films and can't wait for the Return of the King; this page is in jest, yet reading some of the posts - there are people who are taking this seriously.

The Gulf war II is in the second day and casualties are amazingly low. 12 killed in a helicopter accident and one combat death. No news on how many Iraqi have been killed but if they are surrending like they are rumoured to be - there'll be no one to fight. I saw Tony Blair's speech and it was quite bland - he said all the right things but the circumstances of the war and how the UK got themselves into it means that many viewing it are cynical as hell. We were not going to fight until a second UN resolution was granted. While the French threatened to veto it; we took that as an excuse that all was lost and went to war anyway. We didn't even pause and at least to go through the council. At least that would have given a pause of another few weeks before the war starts.

My feelings on the war are mixed however: I am angry that after 12 years - the world didn't get anywhere with Saddam. Why did it take the threats and actions of the US to finally allow the weapon inspectors some room to move? True, Iraq was to blame for a lot of the delays etc but the UN should have had more teeth. The actions of the US and UK is almost like 'Good Cop, Bad Cop'. The UN being the Good Cop had finally given up with the gentle interrogation and let loose the Bad Cop. Think of Russell Crowe and Guy Pierce from 'LA Confidential'

Anway, sanctions don't work against dictatorships - they are insulated from limitations on food and goods. The idea of a sanction is that you hurt the people and the people will automatically hurt the ones in power? Rubbish. Sanctions only work in a democracy. Sanctions only make the people more desparate and poorer and weaker. Makes them even more unlikely to resist tyranny and fight for democracy.

Now I have found out that people are starting to stock pile food and water......c'mon people - Iraq isn't going to launch a nuclear war head into the UK.
