I find the news coverage in the US to be a bit simplistic and very jingoistic. To me it sounds like all channels are terrified of being shown to be less patriotic than their rivals and if so, this means that they are a) against the war and b) supporting Saddam and therefore global terrorism and c) have completely forgotten 9/11
This is a dangerous situation to be in as the Americans have a right to know the full truth of the conflict - that people of all sides (mainly Iraqi) are dying by the hundreds. While, the US has the benefit of a democracy the Iraqis have not and many are fighting and dying for a regime that does not care for them. Asking them to surrender is one thing, but the reality is different - how can they when their families are at risk? how can they when the very town they want to go back to are being bombed?
I do pray for an American victory - a defeat would be catastrophic; it will be open season on all things American and western. The world will be plunged in a horrible nightmare. An easy American victory would have done the same too. The American population needs to make a link to what is going on in Iraq with their lifestyles and way of life. This war is mainly about oil - oil to feed the US habit which is getting bigger and bigger. This addiction is clearly unsustainable yet many are closing their eyes to this fact and hope it will go away. The US wouldn't invade Saudi but they certainly would to keep the status quo. No democracy please as the masses may elect a fundamentalist, anti-American party and that is something that can't happen. .
